Tanking a lift pit at Tamworth Library

The Damptec team was approached by Classic Lifts to treat water ingress in a lift pit at Tamworth Library.  The pit houses a fully operating lift.  It is formed of brick and block work construction.  The issue was pooling water at the wall/floor junction.

After surveying the pit we recommended an internal Type A barrier protection waterproofing system.

SPECIFICATION

Waterproofing the negative side

  1. The substrate was damaged and we noted deterioration, cracks and holes.  These had to be filled prior to the installation of the waterproof membrane using Koster Repair Mortar.
  • We then formed a fillet along the wall/floor and the vertical change of direction junctions using Koster Repair Mortar Plus.
  • At this point the lift pit was ready for the Koster KD System which involved 3 products:
  • KÖSTER KD 1 Base which is a fast curing sealing slurry proven to be highly successful at resisting aggressive ground water and high water pressure.
  • KÖSTER KD 2 Blitz-Powder:  a reactive powder with extremely short setting time sealing leaks within seconds.
  • KÖSTER KD 3 Sealer: a low viscosity silicifying liquid which penetrates the substrate and forms an compound which plugs the pores and seals them permanently via a mineralisation process.
