Our client has asked us to provide a combined waterproofing system for their new build property in Macclesfield.
The waterproofing solution determined is defined in BS 8102: 2022 Protection of Structures against Water from the Ground as a “Grade 3” environment where no dampness is permitted and where the internal environment needs to be managed using appropriate environmental controls.
Our systems comprises:
• Type A: Barrier Protection – external waterproofing
• Type C: Drained Protection – internal waterproofing
The building contractor has prepared the blinding sub base and shuttering around the perimeter ready for the application by Damptec Systems Ltd of Newton Waterproofing HydroBond 403-CCSM base membrane. This is a fully and permanently bonded composite sheet that not only waterproofs but protects against chemicals and gases including radon gas.
At our first visit on 20th July the Damptec team installed the HydroBond 403-CCSM pre-applied waterproofing membrane, prior to the concrete slab being poured (see photo). This is installed against good solid plywood instead of a crumbling soil excavation. We leave the HydroBond 403-CCSM extended over the edges of the shuttering before the main concrete raft slab is cast.
We will return to site once the builders have started work on the walls when we will begin the next stage of waterproofing.
By choosing Damptec for your tanking needs, you ensure a professionally managed project with robust, reliable waterproofing solutions.

Radon gas is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that emerges from the decay of uranium in soil, rock, and groundwater. It is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, which makes it challenging to detect without specialised equipment.
As radon seeps into buildings from the ground, it can accumulate to harmful levels, especially in areas with poor ventilation. Prolonged exposure to high concentrations of radon can pose significant health risks, including an increased risk of lung cancer. This is why testing for radon is crucial, particularly in areas where the gas is more likely to accumulate, such as basements and lower levels of homes.
Mitigation strategies, such as improving ventilation and sealing entry points, can effectively reduce radon levels and minimise health risks.
