Our clients asked us to provide a spec and quotation to waterproof a lift pit for a new gym in central Nottingham.

Type A Barrier Protection Waterproofing

We proposed a Type A Barrier Protection waterproofing system for the lift pit using Newton 403 HydroBond Type A pre-applied membrane. This is a mechanically bonded and self-healing membrane.  It was pre-applied ready for the placement of the concrete raft to a suitably smooth, sound substrate. This is a fully and permanently bonded composite sheet that not only waterproofs but protects against gases and chemicals.

Before waterproofing work could start the main contractor first cast the structural slab ready for the application of the Newton 403 HydroBond Membrane.

Secondly they erected formwork up to ground floor level to allow the installation of the waterproofing (see photos).

Drainage was provided by a maintainable land drain and water bars were installed in the construction joints to prevent the passage of water.

Work by Damptec technicians was then completed in two stages:

The work was completed over 2 days.
