Waterproofing Storage Area/Podium Deck
The Damptec team has installed a Type C cavity drainage protection system incorporating a membrane on the walls and floor area of this private house in Nottingham. Type C (drained protection) allows water to enter into the building as it would normally, therefore not changing the dynamics of the structure. It is commonly called a cavity drain system as the waterproofing membrane is dimpled and therefore creates a cavity which allows water to run behind it, leading to a concealed 110mm modular plastic pipe drainage system which then leads to a point of removal i.e. sump/pump station. The cavity drain system is installed from the DPC down. The system is maintainable and therefore offers long term protection to comply with BS 8102: 2022.
Sump pump station:
We installed a Newton Titan-Pro pumping station designed to collect ground water. The pump station has been specifically designed for below ground applications. The chamber is manufactured from HDPE and when installed correctly it is able to withstand hydrostatic forces encountered with high water tables.
Waterproofing the R/C Concrete Slab
Closed-cell thermal waterproof insulation board
Newton Fibran XPS 500-C was placed below the Newton flooring membrane as a fully drained supporting spacer. The maximum floor load is 16 Mpa (1.6 tonnes/m2). Newton Fibran XPS 500-C has a thermal conductivity of 0.035W/mk and as such will make a significant contribution to the U-value of the floor.
Floor membrane
We installed Newton 503 (8mm) floor membrane over the insulation board in conjunction with cornerstrip.
Floor insulation and floor finishes
We installed 100mm rigid insulation over the waterproofing.
Finally, In terms of floor finishes, a sacrificial screed was installed by a third party contractor as shown in the attached video.
